Weeding sweeps are used to cut and scrape along the surface of the garden to kill weeds without churning up the soil. They are very easy to push because they stay at or just below the surface. The left and right halves can be set up for a range of row widths, or used for straddle weeding.

Use your Hoss Sweeps to...

● quickly weed garden paths and rows
● straddle weed with the Double wheel model
● adjust from 6 to 12" width
● cut down as small as 3" for close spacings

Weeding Sweeps Details

Our weeding sweeps have the same blade geometry as the Planet Jr sweeps that were used so successfully for so many decades. They are called Sweeps because each blade angles (sweeps) back to allow cut weeds to slide off the blades. This is the same efficient design used on tractor drawn weeders.

By slicing shallowly just beneath the surface (about 1/2" deep) they kill young weeds without stirring up a new crop of buried weed seeds.

The sweeps can be used for Straddle Weeding, which is primarily useful to commercial growers of short compact crops like leaf lettuce, beets, radishes, and carrots. It also requires a double wheeled hoe to enable you to straddle the row of crops, and keep the weeding blades level as they work both sides of the crop row in one pass. For reference, the gap between the Hoss wheels = 4-3/4", and the clearance under the frame = 5 inches.

Sweeps can be used on all these machines:

Customer Reviews of the Weeding Sweeps

"My favorite tools are the sweeps. I was able to go all over my garden area and eliminate weeds before they got established. Tilling would have been over-kill. The sweeps were easy and quick."

"I purchased the Deluxe Seeder Combination. Product is somewhat pricey but is made in the USA a big plus for me to buy. I felt by purchasing this package it would have everything needed to keep my garden from ground breaking to harvesting. Due to the drought this past year my garden did not produce as expected and did not use the wheel hoe as expected. What time I did use the Wheel Hoe I was satisfied with the outcome. If you are wanting a manual easy quick way to keep your garden clean I suggest the wheel hoe with the row sweeps. I also purchased the seeder and it performed very well, much easier than eyeing and bending for the placement of most seed. I am satisfied with the whole package and look forward to spring when all is new and we begin again. "

"Ordered the left and right Hoss hoes. Good price, prompt delivery and great product!"

John, from AL   5 star rating

"I am very happy with my purchase. My husband ordered the main unit for me as a gift. I upgraded with a couple of attachments. I love the hoe. So simple but very effective. As I was weeding the other day, it did cross my mind as to how long this will stay sharp enough to cut through the weeds. Quick and easy right now though. I am tall. The ease and speedy of using this tool helps alleviate lower back stress."

How can these transform into so many different arrangements?
It is because of the geometry the Planet Jr company came up with way back around 1910. The left and right sweeps each angle back a little differently so the blades can overlap a bit without hitting each other (in the 10" to 12" range). Then for 6" to 9" spacings the blades are installed in different tracks on the wheel hoe frame so one blade goes well in front of the other. And for EVEN TIGHTER row spacings, a single sweep can be cut smaller with a hacksaw to fit in 5", 4", or even 3" rows, but only when hooked to the single wheel hoe configuration.
