Super strong long-handled shovel.

Why is this square shovel better?

It's better because it's stronger, because it is designed properly, and because it will last much longer than hardware store shovels. Made in the USA for the construction & landscaping industry.

A shovel built this way will last a long time. Scoop and throw rocks, soil, mulch, or grain all day with no worries about handle breakage. You can leave it in the back of your truck all year, and it won't rot like a wooden handled shovel. We understand that "hands-on" people may be hesitant to buy a scoop shovel online, but be assured that these are high quality tools. The kind of use and abuse that will destroy half a dozen inexpensive wooden hardware store shovels will barely scratch this tool.

What is a Scoop Shovel used for?

This style is mainly used for scooping and transferring material from here to there, but it can do a little digging too.

Scooping - The square flat-bottom shovel will effectively move material (soil, gravel, mulch, grain) to a new area or into a wheelbarrow. The straight flat front edge is great for scraping up and lifting material from a flat surface (floor, pavement, truck bed). The upturned edges help it hold more material. It can be plunged into the upper area of a pile, or pushed in with your foot. The blade-to-handle angle (high lift) minimizes bending while shoveling.

If doing a lot of scooping from ground level, consider adding the Shovelution adapter And for even more ideas, see our Scoop Shovels on the Farm article.

Digging - The square shovel is NOT intended for digging in undisturbed soil or sod, but it will do a great a job of scraping stubborn material from a driveway or sidewalk. When digging down into the soil, our round point shovel, or our flat garden spade will be the best choice.

Shovel Specifications

The 9" wide hollow-back blade (shovel head) is formed from one piece of thick 14 gauge carbon steel. It features rolled back steps for secure contact with your foot. The professional grade handle has a thick fiberglass outer tube, with a solid fiberglass core in the critical lower area where head and handle connect.

Benefits of Fiberglass Handles...

Why Buy From Us?

Our philosophy here it Easy Digging is super straightforward. To deliver unique and easy-to-use tools that you will not find in local big box stores.

Our founder Greg Baka has used his engineering background to tweak common tools so they are more powerful and easier to use than ever. Every single product we offer is one we own and use on a regular basis. And every tool we offer is of exceptionally high quality so you can use it for years.

We call that the "Easy Digging Difference"

I have a combination shovel. Do I need a scoop shovel too?

The combination shovel is called that because it has a blended design that let's it do a fair job of both digging into firm soil AND scooping up loose material (like into a wheelbarrow). If you only do a little digging and shoveling, you can get by with just the combination shovel. But if you are a serious digger, you will want both a spade (for digging into firm soil) and a scoop-type square shovel (for lifting loose material). The separate tools both have optimized designs. That means it really is easier to dig with a spade, and much easier to transfer material with a true flat-bottom shovel.
