Reviews of our Picks and Mattocks

We provide a mattock and pick that are designed to be easy on your back. The steel heads are a little lighter (4 pounds instead of the common 5 or 6) and the handles are longer (45 inches instead of the common 36 inches).

This combination allows you to stand up straighter and requires less muscle than the common tools.

mattock and pick with long handles

Got a couple tools for digging a trench for an electrical run to a detached garage. It was in an inconvenient spot with a slope, rocks and roots, and tight working area. Between the grub hoe, cutter mattock, and trench shovel I got it done about as easily as I could expect. These are some quality tools with great service from the sellers.

Only have used the pickaxe for a couple weeks as part of a toolset to basically level a rock and root infested hill and it definitely fills a need. The mattock I haven't really used at all yet, but it arrived with one of its faces a bit oddly shaped. Kind of wishing I'd just gotten another pickaxe for my partner to use. Maybe the mattock will still find a use.

I purchased hoe and pickaxe. It was easy to put together. I haven't used it a lot. Waiting for the season. Looks like a great one. I used hoes and pick axe for gardening in India. Not many people using hoe in US for trenching. I want to put these for good use. Thanks easy digging :-)

We call these digging tools badza's in Africa and I wouldn't be without them for any type of strenuous gardening work. Most recently I widened my 6'6" swing gate to a 10' sliding gate and had to move the one post out which was buried 3.5' down in concrete with asphalt above. No problem for the longer badza. I smashed through the asphalt and kept going till the mission was complete. Tomorrow I'm using it to dig another hole for my sump pump. I've got lots of jobs lined up for it because it's the best tool for most ground jobs.

I am preparing a site to plant wildflower seeds in the spring, i hand tilled roughly 0.08 of an acre with the mattock, it is a fine tool indeed, i am 6'2" and the long handle was a big help, it is solid built, it is not too heavy or too light, you will not find this tool at lowes or home depot, i highly recommend it, if i ever need tools like these this is where i will return to get them, bravo on the craftsmenship, well done.

This is the only place I could find a long handled pick mattock and it has saved my back when digging through my root infested yard.

I purchased the 4" grub hoe and the 46" handled pick to dig a 4-6" wide, 22" deep 24' trench in compacted caliche-like "soil" for an electrical circuit between the house and the garage. The tools arrived on time and come disassembled with clear and easy instructions for putting together. I also purchased a San Angelo bar from a big box store at the owner's suggestion. Between the three tools, I was able to dig the trench over a few days, working in the afternoon in 95-degree heat for an hour or two each day after work. The grub hoe was essential, and I used the bar more than the pick, but the pick was useful and will be handy for other projects. While it was a fair amount of work it was not that bad for an overweight male nearing retirement. The tools are high quality and if you have a trench digging fetish or even a small job like mine, they will not disappoint.

forged pickaxe and cutter mattock heads

I have been using a standard mattocks all my life. I have been looking for a longer handle for my mattocks for years. The tool I bought from you with a 46" handle is a major back saver for me. I would recommend this tool for anyone over 5'10" in height.

It is the middle of summer and our clay soil is rock hard. Your tools make it much easier to break ground and get somewhere. The grub hoe and pick ax are our go-tos at the moment. PS David the Good sent us.

I am a small-framed woman in her early sixties. I purchased the 6" grub hoe and an L-pick to help me uproot prickley pear cactus on my land. All it took was a swing or two. These tools are so well made and heavily weighted that they add heft to a swing even from a person of my size and strength. The tools made up for what I lacked in power and got the job done with minimal effort on my part. True to the name, this made for easy digging. So glad I bought from EasyDigging.com.

These are fine, durable digging tools for which my pride and pocketbook are pleased to own. My back has its complaints, but I stopped listening to my back a long time ago. Though I've only had the grub hoe and Maddox a few weeks, I am happy so far. While it would be insane to find any joy in moving dirt from one spot to another, it is, on occasion, necessary. And these two tools make the dirty drudgery doable.

I bought the bigger hoe and a mattock. I love them! The hoe digs well and I like the long handled! The tools are well made and will last me a long, long time. The mattock I am using to dig up a stump and it is working well!!! I like these tools!!! Jeff H.

I bought both of the long-handled picks. I am 6' 2" tall, and almost 70 years old. The picks are kind of expensive. But shorter, cheaper picks force me to work bent over. If I got injured using a short pick, the extra cost of the long-handled picks would seem like nothing. I emailed Greg last summer to make sure that these picks aren't easily broken. He assured me that they would last a long time if I didn't abuse them, and didn't use them for prying. I delayed buying them for months because I hate spending money. I will have to dig up big roots later this year. These picks will especially help when I am digging for hours. So far I have only used the picks for small jobs, for example to dig up small roots and bermuda grass. Yesterday I was digging weeds with a Groundhog short-handled pick, on my knees. I got tired. I got one of the long-handled picks to finish the job standing up. It worked well. The picks have a lighter head than most picks, and a long, slim handle. I have broken lots of handles in the past. I am going to be careful with these. If I have to pry, I will use a pry bar or a hardware-store pick.

I'm a tool freak: If I travel, I always bring something I've never seen before home with me. I think I will be using the two long-handle tools for heavier, deep digging projects. I think the one with the "axe" type blade will be especially useful for dividing big ornamental grasses. The handle on the one-hand small hoe is too skinny for my large, arthritic hands but it will make a great gift for a young gardener I know.

I was using a pick ax, something that I am too old to be using, I was hurting my back. Your tool has helped me dig up roots and hard ground, thanks.

I needed this tool ...badly. I spent a day with a shovel, trying to dig out a flower bed 24 x 3 feet. What I thought would take me an hour took all day, because the ground (can't use the word "soil") was composed of a mixture of about 90% small rocks and 10% small rocks. This area was next to a new house, where the contractor had used rock for drainage and to firm the soil. Impossible to dig. Ordered the pick / mattock, and finished the job in about 90 minutes. The length and weight were perfect - I am 5'10" - much nicer to handle than the typical pick.

Even as a 5' 11" tall individual, having a 42" long handle is very helpful and spares my back. The pick itself is well made.

I highly recommend EasyDigging's tools and am very pleased with their customer service. I found EasyDigging's products online while searching for tools to help with upcoming projects. My husband and I just started a large landscaping/drainage project at our new home. Getting older and some minor injuries from pushing through previous projects has been making it increasingly challenging. I called EasyDigging's contact number and asked what their shipping turn around was. The man was extremely helpful. After checking inventory, he said everything would ship out the next day and I would get them within the week. Everything arrived quickly and was packaged well. The products we purchased were 2 grub hoes (not wimpy hoes, but massive/sharp hunks of steel on these!!), 1 fork hoe, 1 trench shovel, 1 pointed shovel, 1 standard green broadfork, long handle sharp shooter shovel, and 1 pointed long handled digging shovel. Every product was far superior to anything we had and could find at local stores. I was hesitant to purchase the broadfork because of the cost, but am very glad I did. It has turned out to be one of the most used tools we have. It is built like a tank and should last a long time. It loosens, lifts and breaks up the compacted clay/rocky soil better than anything else - and without hurting my back or shoulder.

I bought both the pick ax and the 6 inch hoe. Both were very well made and durable. I used the pick ax to break up the dirt and then used the 6 inch hoe to scrape out trench. Worked great!

The Easy Digging grub hoes and picks are the ace for cleaning my culverts and ditches. Here in West Virginia I hit shale a few inches down. My method is the following. I use the 4 inch or 6 inch grub hoes for pulling out leaves and loam. The ditch might require deepening. If I hit hard shale, I will break it up with the spike end of the pick axe, then scoop it out with the grub hoes. If I hit soft shale or clay I break it with the pick mattock. These tools are all I need to maintain my ditches. They are the most efficient returns on energy of any tool I've used. The stress on my back is minimal; the longer handles make a huge difference. Roughly these Easy Digging tools are 4x more efficient than the junk offered by the hardware stores. These tools are very well built and take a beating. No need to worry about bending or breaking them.

The web site was easy to use. Products came quickly. I had no problems so did not have to contact customer service. I have not used them yet as they were not assembled, I would have preferred the product to be ready to use when opened. I am senior and now have to have someone put together as I don't seen to get them tight enough.
