Assembly Instructions for the Pick Axe, Cutter Mattock, and Pick Mattock
Your new pick or mattock has been adjusted in our shop to insure a good snug fit between
the metal head and the wooden handle.
This is accomplished by assembling the tool to find areas of interference between the head
and the handle. These areas are then ground or sanded off. This procedure is repeated until
the head and the handle fit together tightly.
All you have to do is re-assemble your tool so that the black dots line up!

Step 1.
Locate the black dots on both tool head and handle. If you
have purchased more than one tool, then your second tool
will have two dots and your third tool will have three dots and
so forth.
Step 2.
Slide the head onto the handle so that the black dots line up.
(See the picture below)
Step 3.
Hold the thin end of the handle and bang the wide end of the
handle straight down onto a smooth concrete surface. (See
the picture below)
Step 4.
Repeat these forceful blows until the head firmly grips the
handle.
WARNING – SHARP TOOL - Use extreme caution to protect eyes, hands, and feet of user and bystanders.
Keep away from children. Always wear safety glasses. Any striking tool may chip if struck against another
hard surface, resulting in damage to the tool and possible serious bodily injury.
REMINDER:
During use you must occasionally check to insure that the head is still tight. If
loose, repeat Steps 3 and 4 to tighten the head.
Disassembly:
To remove the tool head, hold the metal head with both hands and bang the thin
end of the handle down against a wooden board laid on a concrete surface until
the head moves far enough down the handle to separate. The wooden board
protects the end of the handle from damage.
